Bangladesh Pull Off Record-Breaking Chase in Thrilling Last-Over Finish

In a high-scoring thriller, Bangladesh chased down Afghanistan’s massive 156/8 in just 9.5 overs, completing the highest successful run chase in this format. Afghanistan, batting first, set a new record for the second highest total batting first, powered by Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s explosive 50 off just 21 balls and late fireworks from Azmatullah Omarzai (26 off 9) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (22* off 5).

Bangladesh responded aggressively. Shakib Al Hasan led the charge with a blistering 85 off 25 balls*, including a crucial finish under pressure. Liton Das added a fiery 39 off 11 balls to keep the chase alive. The final over began with Bangladesh needing 9 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi struck twice on the 2nd and 3rd balls, dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim, creating a hat-trick chance and swinging the game back into the balance.

Afif Hossain, calm under pressure, nudged a single to rotate strike to Shakib Al Hasan, who then sealed the match with a four and a six, giving Bangladesh a 6-wicket victory with one ball to spare.

Afif Hossain, who earlier claimed 4/29, was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance. Mujeeb Ur Rahman also bowled a brilliant maiden over in an otherwise run-filled game.

With this win, Bangladesh leveled the three-match series 1-1, setting up a thrilling decider.
