England Complete Dominant 6-Wicket Victory at The Oval

England secured a commanding 6-wicket victory over Afghanistan at The Kia Oval on December 23, 2025, chasing down the target with 1.1 overs to spare in the third and final match of the series.

Afghanistan’s Innings

Afghanistan struggled throughout their innings, managing only 124 runs in their allotted 10 overs. Despite a blistering knock from Mohammad Nabi, who smashed 51 runs off just 18 balls at a strike rate of 283.33, the Afghan batting lineup collapsed around him. The lower order provided some late fireworks, with Karim Janat (16 off 4 balls) and Nijat Masood (6 off 2 balls) hitting out, but it wasn’t enough.

Chris Woakes was the pick of England’s bowlers with figures of 3/16 in 2 overs, while Moeen Ali (2/20) and Mark Wood (1/12) also impressed. The Afghan innings saw regular wickets falling, with the team losing their first four wickets for just 30 runs.

England’s Chase

England made light work of the chase, reaching 125/4 in just 8.5 overs. Jos Buttler led from the front with an explosive 39 off 18 balls, while Moeen Ali finished unbeaten on 31 off 9 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 344.44. Joe Root remained not out on 23 off 9 balls to guide England home.

Mohammad Nabi continued his excellent all-round performance, taking 2/24 in 1.5 overs, but it proved insufficient as England’s batting depth proved too strong.

Man of the Match

Mohammad Nabi was awarded Man of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance – scoring 51 runs off 18 balls and taking 2 wickets for 24 runs – despite being on the losing side.

This victory completed a clean sweep for England, who won the series 3-0.
