Hasaranga’s Magic and Chandimal’s Firepower Power Sri Lanka to Commanding T10 Win

Sri Lanka delivered a dominant all-round performance to clinch a convincing 7-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the 8th match of the T10 World Cup 2026 at Bay Oval, continuing their strong momentum in the tournament.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted a competitive 118 runs but were bowled out in 9.2 overs despite aggressive starts. Hazratullah Zazai (29 off 13) and Rashid Khan (25 off 8) provided quick runs, while Najibullah Zadran and Ibrahim Zadran chipped in with brisk cameos. However, Afghanistan struggled to build sustained partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack was led brilliantly by Wanindu Hasaranga, who produced a match-winning spell of 4 wickets for 17 runs in 2 overs, dismantling the Afghan middle and lower order. Dushmantha Chameera (3 wickets) and Lahiru Kumara (2 wickets) provided excellent support, ensuring Afghanistan never fully capitalized on their explosive intent.

In reply, Sri Lanka made light work of the chase, reaching 120 for 3 in just 7.4 overs. Dinesh Chandimal played a sensational knock, smashing 56 runs off just 17 balls, registering one of the fastest fifties of the tournament. He was well supported by Kusal Mendis, who remained unbeaten on 46 off 19 balls, maintaining control and composure throughout the chase.

Although Rashid Khan picked up two wickets, Afghanistan’s bowlers were unable to stem the flow of runs as Sri Lanka’s batters dominated with clean hitting and fearless intent. Hasaranga added the finishing touches with a quick cameo, capping off an outstanding all-round performance that earned him the Man of the Match award.

This emphatic win not only boosts Sri Lanka’s confidence but also strengthens their position in Group B, while Afghanistan will need to regroup quickly and tighten both their bowling plans and fielding execution in upcoming fixtures.
