Agha’s Karachi Blitz Leaves Sri Lanka in Ruins

Pakistan delivered one of the most dominant performances of Asia Cup 2026, crushing Sri Lanka by 86 runs in Match 7 at the National Stadium in Karachi. A breathtaking innings from captain Salman Ali Agha followed by a ruthless bowling display ensured Pakistan bounced back in emphatic fashion and strengthened their position in the tournament standings.

The star of the evening was Salman Ali Agha, whose explosive 66 from just 18 deliveries completely transformed the contest and laid the foundation for Pakistan’s imposing total of 168.

After being put into bat, Pakistan started aggressively through Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan. The opening pair attacked from the outset, with Ayub smashing 27 runs from only 12 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Farhan complemented him with 22 from 14 deliveries as Pakistan raced to 43 before losing their first wicket.

Sri Lanka briefly fought back through Dushmantha Chameera, who removed both Farhan and Fakhar Zaman in quick succession. When Salman Ali Agha arrived at the crease, Pakistan were looking for someone to seize control of the innings.

The Pakistan captain responded with one of the finest knocks of the tournament.

Agha launched a relentless assault on the Sri Lankan attack, smashing boundaries to all parts of the ground. He raced to his half-century in just 15 balls and continued attacking until he was eventually dismissed for a magnificent 66 from only 18 deliveries. His innings included four fours and eight towering sixes at a strike rate of 366.67.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers simply had no answer to his power and precision.

Usman Khan contributed a quickfire 11 from four balls, while Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim provided a late flourish with identical unbeaten scores of 12 from just two deliveries. Their finishing burst propelled Pakistan to a commanding 168/7 from their ten overs.

For Sri Lanka, Chameera was the standout bowler with figures of 2/16, while Matheesha Pathirana continued his impressive tournament by claiming two wickets. However, the damage inflicted by Agha proved too severe.

Needing 169 for victory, Sri Lanka required an explosive start but instead found themselves under immediate pressure from Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack.

Pathum Nissanka briefly entertained with two early sixes before Salman Mirza dismissed him for 12. The very next ball saw Kusal Mendis depart for a duck, reducing Sri Lanka to 12/2 and shifting momentum firmly toward Pakistan.

Naseem Shah then removed Dinesh Chandimal, while Faheem Ashraf dismissed Kusal Perera to deepen Sri Lanka’s troubles. Kamindu Mendis attempted to rebuild with 12 from 10 balls, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

Dasun Shanaka briefly counterattacked with 12 from just three deliveries, striking two sixes, but Shadab Khan quickly ended his resistance. The leg-spinner also removed Wanindu Hasaranga for a duck, effectively extinguishing Sri Lanka’s hopes.

Eshan Malinga provided the only significant resistance in the lower order with a fighting 17 from eight deliveries, while Dushmantha Chameera remained unbeaten on 8. However, the required rate had climbed far beyond reach.

Pakistan’s bowlers maintained complete control throughout the innings. Salman Mirza was particularly impressive, claiming four wickets and cleaning up the tail to finish with outstanding figures of 4/19. Shadab Khan chipped in with two wickets, while Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, and Faheem Ashraf each contributed one.

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 82 in their final over, handing Pakistan a massive 86-run victory.
