Dawid Malan 60 (16 balls)*
Malan’s 16-Ball Masterclass Sends England Storming Into the World Cup 2026 Final
The first semi-final of the World Cup 2026 delivered high drama and ruthless execution as England outplayed South Africa to secure a commanding 49-run victory, booking their place in the grand final in emphatic fashion.
England Set the Tone Early
Winning the toss, England wasted no time in asserting dominance. The opening pair gave England the perfect launchpad, with Jos Buttler smashing 32 off just 17 balls and Joe Root adding a fluent 24 from 10 deliveries. Their fearless intent immediately put South Africa on the back foot.
The true turning point, however, arrived with Dawid Malan walking in. Malan produced one of the most destructive innings of the tournament — a breathtaking 60 off just 16 balls*, striking at an astonishing rate and dismantling the South African bowling attack with surgical precision. Supported well by Harry Brook (28 off 13), England powered their way to a formidable 153/3 in 10 overs.
South Africa Crumble Under Pressure
Chasing a steep target, South Africa’s hopes briefly flickered thanks to Quinton de Kock, who blasted 30 off just 8 balls. However, his dismissal triggered a dramatic collapse that England capitalized on ruthlessly.
England’s bowling unit was relentless. Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone applied the squeeze in the middle overs, while Ben Stokes delivered a decisive spell that shattered South Africa’s resistance. Wickets fell in clusters, momentum vanished, and the chase unraveled rapidly.
Despite a lone fighting effort from Wayne Parnell (23*), South Africa were bowled out for 104 in just 8 overs, ending their World Cup journey on a disappointing note.
England March On With Authority
This victory underlined England’s depth, balance, and big-match temperament. From explosive batting to disciplined bowling, they ticked every box on the biggest stage so far. Dawid Malan’s blistering knock rightly earned him Man of the Match, but it was a complete team performance that carried England through.
With this dominant semi-final triumph, England now march confidently into the World Cup 2026 Final, brimming with belief and momentum — ready to chase ultimate glory.

Post-Match Remarks
“ We came here with the intent to win, and we managed to do just that. The solid start from our opening partnership, followed by a blistering innings from Dawid, set the tone for the match. We made a tactical change at the top by promoting Root and resting Jonny Bairstow, and that decision worked in our favor. We felt the Proteas bowlers were under pressure, and in their search for wickets, their bowling became predictable. Coetzee bowled well, but overall we posted a good, defendable total. With the ball, we focused on applying pressure to the South African batting lineup. Archer’s early wicket gave us momentum, and although Wood’s over was expensive, the dismissal of de Kock in that over swung the game our way. Liam, playing his first World Cup match, contributed well with the ball.Overall, the team changes, strong fielding, and disciplined performance helped us secure the win and book our place as the first finalists. The Proteas played well, but now we’re fully focused and ready for the final.
“ We had a really bad in bowling and field. Our spinners couldn’t stop runs or couldn’t take a wickets. English batsman started very well. Before we won the toss and decided to choose bowl we were aware that this pitch would either turn out slow or fast in the first innings. Unfortunately it was fast today and good for EnG. Coetzee did well but overall the confidence for english player was too high and they put on a big score. Rickelton’s early dismissal put us under pressure. DeKock tried to release that pressure. He was aware that after those boundaries one wrong shot and gone but he couldn’t timely stop his bat led to his dismissal. Players came in, batting orders swapped but overall we were still manging close to 15 RR. We couldn stop lossing wickets which led to collapse. The complete collapse happen when Ben Stokes bowled and Moeen Ali took all close boundary catches. It wasn’t the day for us. But overall we had amazing tournament. After winning Continental Cup 2025, we have been dominating in the world cup and will remember this journey as semifinalists. deKock had the best tournament and currently sitting on global 2nd rank. He will be at top soon. Thanks!
